Tenzan Yuzushu Sake

Tenzan Sake Brewery is located in Saga Prefecture, which is located in the northwestern part of the island of Kyushu. The brewery is owned by the Shichida family and was established in 1875. In 1861, the Shichida family founded a water mill in Ogi City, where the beautiful natural waters from Mt. Tenzan run into the Gion River. Over the next 100 years, the Shichida family milled flour, produced noodles, and polished rice for neighboring sake breweries. In fact, the mill’s somen noodles were once called the best in the country. However, the family decided to close their flour milling business in the 1960s to focus on brewing sake. In 1875, the Shichida Sake Brewery was established by Toshizo Shichida and his wife, Tsuki. When their neighbour, a sake brewer, went out of business, he asked Toshizo and Tsuki to purchase his brewery and equipment. In 1936, Toshizo and Tsuki’s architect son, Shuichi Shichida, took over the business and established Shichida Honten Ltd. His passion for architecture created our historical brewery and warehouses, including the Meiji building, Taisho building, and Showa building, all of which are still used today. Their artistic and innovative designs are regarded highly by the Japanese government and they are registered as ‘Tangible Cultural Properties’ of Japan. In 1959, Shuichi Shichida III changed the company’s name to Tenzan Sake Brewery. From the first generation to the current fifth generation, the Shichida family has focused on brewing the highest quality sake using the best quality rice. Because we believe that sake is the joint creation of sake makers and rice farmers, we continue to work with our suppliers to improve the quality of our sake.

Cloudy, milky lemon yellow color. Bright aromas of grapefruit and tangerine have an earthy herbal and lime leaf edge and follow through on a supple entry to a vert tart medium -to-full body with vibrant tangy citrus peel fruit and a crisp, lingering mouthwatering, tilled earth accented fade. Very pure and appealing.
