Heavy Char Maturation: Aged in American oak barrels that have undergone an intensive toasting process, imparting deep "burnt" notes and creamy sweetness.
Volcanic Microclimate: The sugarcane is grown in the mineral-dense, well-draining soils of Macouba, providing a more robust and "earthy" profile than other Martinique rhums.
VO Classification: As a "Very Old" (VO) rhum, it has spent a minimum of three years in wood, allowing the oak to fully integrate with the fruit and floral notes of the sugarcane.
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Rich and inviting. Bold aromas of burnt vanilla pods and wildflower honey are balanced by a hint of toasted hazelnut.
Palate: Full-bodied and complex. A lush entry of ripe tropical fruits (pineapple and papaya) is quickly layered with warming nutmeg and sweet oak spices.
Finish: Long and persistent. The finish returns to the toasted vanilla and honey, leaving a delicate, woody dryness on the tongue.
Brand: Rhum J.M
Style: Rhum Vieux Agricole (VO)
Origin: Macouba, Martinique
Size: 70cl
Aging: Minimum 3 Years in Intensely Toasted American Oak.
The Sophisticated Sipper: Best enjoyed neat in a tulip glass. The 43% ABV makes it very approachable, allowing the honey and nutmeg notes to shine without heat.
The "Volcanic" Old Fashioned: Use a dash of chocolate bitters and a brown sugar cube to draw out the burnt vanilla and toasted oak characteristics.
The Premium Highball: Top with a splash of premium ginger ale and an orange wedge to highlight the tropical fruit notes.
Gourmet Pairing: Complements caramelized desserts, grilled pineapple, or dark chocolate with sea salt.
