Chartreuse Liqueurs have a long and rich history that began over 500 years ago when an ancient manuscript was gifted to a monastery in Paris. This manuscript contained the recipe for an elixir nicknamed the 'Elixir of Long Life', and was said to be so complex that very few monks understood it. In the 18th Century, it was transported to a Monastery in the Chartreuse Mountains for further study, and a formula was eventually deciphered and made into an extremely alcoholic medicine.
It soon became a popular beverage and thus Green Chartreuse was created with a lower ABV for easier consumption (still at 55%!) Soon the distillery was a hub of distribution across the world, and to this day their liqueurs are made exclusively by monks.
Green Chartreuse is the only liqueur in the world whose green colour is entirely natural, and only 2 monks know the exact blend of 130 botanicals that make this unique drink. It begins on the palate with slightly sharp herbal notes followed by a minty, warm finish. Best enjoyed neat and extremely cold or used as a fun cocktail ingredient.
